Bicuits And Gravy

This morning, I woke up early with a–mighty powerful–craving for Biscuits and Gravy. It was one of those things that you can’t easily dismiss…it just wouldn’t get out of my head. Most of my breakfasts consist of  outrageously healthy smoothies and a bowl of oatmeal (no sugar added). Not this morning. I headed to the pantry to search for some Crisco and white flour. By the way…real, true southern Biscuits and Gravy are both made with 3 simple ingredients…grease, flour (self-rising) and whole milk.

I frantically tore the pantry apart looking for some Crisco. By this time… I could see, smell and taste the flaky, piping hot biscuits smothered in white creamy gravy. This southern girl needed…desperately craved some Biscuits and Gravy.  CRAP!!…no grease to be found, no white flour, no whole milk. It wasn’t meant to be.

My craving has now dwindled down to a mere remembrance of what could have been.

Now, I understand why only healthy, clean ingredients are allowed in my pantry and frig.  When those moments of weakness come along–and they will again–I won’t have the opportunity to surrender to my southern girl cravings.

A pat on the back is in order…sort of.
