Immune Booster Smoothie

Immune Booster Smoothie

blender13[1]Although this recipe makes enough for two, I usually drink the entire blender all by myself.  Mike, my husband isn’t a big fan of veggie based smoothies so I get to reap the benefits of all these wonderful immune boosting ingredients. I love this smoothie for its taste and most of all its nutritional benefits. This smoothie is my breakfast 99% of the time and believe me it has benefits you won’t believe.  Every single ingredient in this smoothie, right down to the last sprinkle of cinnamon, is an immune booster!  I came up with this recipe out of a need to improve my health and it’s been a constant companion ever since.

Ingredients:
2 cups baby spinach (organic)
4 kale leaves (organic if possible)
6 baby carrots  or peeled (organic) or 3  cauliflower florets
1 sm frozen banana (be sure to slice before freezing)
1 cup frozen berries (unsweetened)
Fresh ginger root (1/2″ slice) has amazing health benefits and taste great in smoothies.
1/4 tsp cloves (powerful antioxidant)
1/2 tsp cinnamon (helps prevent inflammation)
1/2 cup Greek Yogurt (plain & 0% fat)…great source of protein.
1 cup chilled green tea (unsweetened)…home brewed is best. If you really want an antioxidant green
tea try either Sencha or Matcha.
1/2 cup pure pomegranate juice…I prefer Bolthouse Farms or Pom Wonderful Brands. The other well
known brands are too watered down for my taste and cost about the same.

Toss all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. The blender will be filled to the top with loads of immune boosting ingredients so be sure the lid is on securely before blending. It will take a minute or so for all the ingredients to blend completely. Enjoy and reap the benefits!!!

Tip: If you don’t have one of the above veggies, substitute with another one of your choosing.  Sometimes I’ll throw in some cauliflower if I’m out of carrots, as was the case on the day I made this photo.  I love that this smoothie is so versatile and taste great with just about any vegetable, although I’ve never tried it with Brussel Sprouts!
