In a few short weeks 37 year old Daniela will be a mom for the fourth time.  WOW…she looks amazing and I  couldn’t  wait to get the details about how she does it. I met Daniela several months ago via my fitness facebook page.  I was so impressed with her postings about staying fit while pregnant, that I wanted to know more. Daniela was kind enough to grant me an interview and give specifics about how she stays fit and fabulous and plans to do so for a lifetime.

Daniela is mom to Noah 5, Oscar 3 and Mietta 1. She’s quick to point out, in her words, “We don’t muck around do we”?  She is ready to call this one her last pregnancy and give her body a break.  Daniela is obviously proud of her body and decided to have a professional photo made much like her favorite Super Model Cindy Crawford when she was pregnant and on the cover of W magazine in a bare all pose called, “Naked Angel”.

Clean eating 80-90% of the time is one of Daniela’s secrets to staying in such great shape.  She has a seven day meal plan which she and her family follow. She even has eight weeks of clean eating meals already prepared and in the freezer for after the baby arrives.  Now I call that a plan.  With her three previous pregnancies Daniela gained 55-66 lbs. of unnecessary weight. She wasn’t about to let that happen again.  Yes, she indulges in a few slices of pizza on occasion but most of the time her lifestyle of clean eating goes something like this:

e

Meal One 2 poached eggs with spinach & tomatoes with a glass of almond or lactose free milk
Meal Two Greek yogurt with walnuts and blueberries… drizzle of agave syrup.
Meal Three Beef Salad and left over beef scotch fillet thinly sliced with spinach, cucumber, avocado, tomato tossed with a drizzle of olive oil, squeeze of lemon juice.
Meal Four Green Smoothie with spinach, banana, blueberries, scoop of protein powder, chia seeds, splash of milk…almond or lactose free milk.
Meal Five Grilled salmon on a bed of steamed spinach, broccoli and carrots.
Meal Six banana, natural yogurt and cocoa powder whizzed in her bullet/rocket processor (no sugar added). Daniela says this yummy treat is, “Like a chocolate banana mousse.  YUMMO!”
2-3 liters  of water each day.

Daniela got very specific with her workout routine and uses two options which she was more than happy to share.

She uses her Body weight and dumbbell weights only.  The dumbbell sizes are around 6.6 lbs. (3kgs) and 11 lbs. (5kgs).

Workout option A:

Monday; Wednesday; Friday Resistance training. Example – lunges, Y ups, planks, 10-15 reps with 4-6 different exercises/moves. 15 minutes MAX workout time.
Tuesday; Thursday; Saturday Interval training. Example – Dumbbell thrusts 30/30 x 15 or step-ups on a box. 15 minutes MAX workout time.
Sunday is a rest day.

Workout option B:

Monday; Wednesday; Friday; Saturday 30 minutes workout every second day with 15 minutes resistance training & 15 minutes interval training.

Tuesday; Thursday; Sunday
Rest day, although walking is encouraged!

Daniela works out at home and attributes much of her success to of a virtual fitness club called, “Fit Yummy Mummy”. This site is for busy moms allowing them to workout in the comfort of their home while saving money on gym memberships. This pregnancy is very different from the previous three because of Daniela’s clean eating, which she is quick to point out is not a diet…it’s a lifestyle. At 32 weeks she stopped the workouts and concentrated on light stretching and asymmetric movements as she suffers from pubis dysfunction and doesn’t want to tear or damage her already torn ligaments.

What keeps Daniela motivated? Her family! Feeling great and being healthy for herself and family is key. She wants to be able to play with her children and have energy to do so without having to say, “I’m tired or too puffed out to keep up.” She has noticed so many changes in her mood, energy levels, mind and spirit with this new lifestyle. The key, Daniela believes, “YOU are the most important person in your life. If you don’t take care of yourself, no one will. If YOU don’t schedule the time, it won’t happen. We all owe it to each other to have some “me” time even if it’s my 15 minutes of working out per day. This is what wakes me up in the morning. This is who I am, this is what makes me tick and makes me the person I am today. Of course I ensure I have my other “me” time which is reading my monthly magazine subscriptions, going to the flicks with my girlfriends, pamper day spa treatments, etc.. Just make sure YOU book your “me” time in your husbands/partners diary. That’s how we make it all work.” Thanks for the inspiration Daniela!!!
