Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) is an ancient grain grown in the Andes Mountains and dates back to 3,000 B.C.. This protein rich whole grain contains all the essential amino acids necessary for muscle & tissue repair, is gluten free and fiber rich. Quinoa is often used in place of rice and is versatile enough to be the headliner in this ultra yummy & nutritious smoothie/dessert.
Quinoa Banana Berry Smoothie …the mother of all smoothies.
Ingredients: (2 servings)
1/2 cup cooked Quinoa (cook according to package and chill)
1 frozen banana (pre-sliced)
1 cup frozen berries (I prefer mixed berries here)
1 1/2 cups green tea (home brewed without added sweeteners is best), add more or less depending on consistency preferred.
Directions: Place all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. Makes 2-3 servings.
Tip: Quinoa can be purchased in the organic or health food section of most supermarkets. Not everyone likes the texture of this smoothie, but I just happen to love the taste and with the added health benefits I’m oblivious to the texture. Another fit fabulous smoothie!
